The District of Columbia Housing Authority recently celebrated the holidays with customers who are veterans or recent homeowners with Home for the Holidays.

The participants, who either used their Housing Choice Voucher to assist in purchasing a home, or are part of the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program, listened to guest speakers about the success they have achieved once they received stable housing from DCHA. Following the speakers, customers were treated to holiday treats and gift cards.

“The celebration was awesome. To hear how the housing authority has helped other people besides us was a blessing,” said Tiffany Eley, who recently closed on her new home. “I’m thankful for the dedication the staff has put into the homeownership program for us and those coming into the program behind us.”

Larry O’Quinn, a former member of the U.S. Army who has been in the VASH program for three years, said he is now interested in getting onto the path of homeownership.

“The housing authority has been very helpful to me. Resources are available to us. If I have an issue, I can speak with someone who will help me resolve the issue,” O’Quinn said. “I’m just grateful.”
