The James Creek Resident Council hosted their annual "Back to School" event with more than 200 people visiting from the community and surrounding area.

Residents were able to enjoy catered and grilled food, a live DJ, moon bounce, games, free haircuts, water ice, popcorn, cotton candy, resources from vendors, and much more. Kids participated in pie- and watermelon-eating contests. There also was a visit from Ward 6 Council member Charles Allen and his daughter.

Residents expressed that this event was one of the best they've experienced so far and were very appreciative of the community response and participation.

In addition to all of the fun, children received bookbags that were full to the brim of school supplies. The bookbags were donated by U.S. Coast Guard Chaplin Jonathan Alexader and his staff.

The James Creek community would like thank all the vendors, sponsors, and donors, as well as District of Columbia Housing Authority Area Manager Quantay Oliver for cooking on the grill and Moneek Scott, the community navigator for the James Creek property, with her assistance.
