Representatives from the General Services Administration and U.S. Coast Guard brought hundreds of back packs to Barry Farm youth.

The first Back to School backpack distribution was held on August 15 with assistance from the District of Columbia Housing Authority Office of Resident Services and the Barry Farm Resident Council. A second event is being held on August 25.

The backpacks were stuffed binders, crayons, markers, pencils, pens, rules, glue, pencil sharpeners, spiral notebooks, folders, pencil holders, and more. Some of the children had a hard time carrying the loaded packs home.

U.S. Coast Guard Chaplin Jonathan Alexader and his staff along with Ms. Stevens from GSA were on hand to deliver Book Bags to the remaining families with school age children full of school supplies. Also, stopping by was DCHA's Deputy Executive Director and Special Counsel Chelsea Johnson. Community Navigator Ron Friday with the help of Mananger Dorothy Glenn, Foreman Douglas Moody, Housing Management Assistant Tierra Cooper, and Resident Council President Rhonda Edwards-Hines all played a role in making this another successful event in collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard and GSA.
