The District of Columbia Housing Authority will make great strides towards safety this summer.

To kick off the Summer of Safety initiative, DCHA is hosting a festival on June 15 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Stoddert Terrace, located at 155 Ridge Road, S.E., that will feature resources and activities that will help families have a fun and safe summer.

“Our customers’ safety and security is a top priority for me so the Office of Public Safety has a series of improvements we will be making as part of the Summer of Safety initiative,” said DCHA Police Chief Joel Maupin. “Working with our community partners, we will strive to make this summer will be the safest yet.”

At the festival, Maupin will introduce the new security officers that were hired to help increase the police force’s visible presence at DCHA communities this summer. Maupin also will implement targeted community policing, conduct outreach activities for the youth and seniors, and engage the community with crime prevention activities.

Customers will be able to get more details on these events at the kickoff and also learn about expunging criminal records, see a CPR demonstration, get information from a host of community partners, and participate in a truck touch of D.C. vehicles.

Community partners invited to participate include the American Lung Association, D.C. Department of Health, D.C. Public Libraries, Whitman Walker Clinic, Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, D.C. Public Schools, Metropolitan Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and more.
