The District of Columbia Housing Authority, in partnership with the D.C. Special Olympics, participated in the Washington Wizards clinic for Special Olympic athletes last month.

More than 30 DCHA youth with special needs worked on passing, dribbling, and shooting baskets on the main court at Capitol One Arena with Wizards players on March 26. Wizards Head Coach Scott Brooks and several Wizards players led the athletes through various drills and games.

“Bringing our DCHA customers new and exciting experiences for all of their family members is just one way we try to go beyond the voucher,” said DCHA Tyrone Garrett. “We are a housing authority, but it is always customers first.”

Special Olympics President and CEO Nicole Preston said she has been looking for ways to interact with DCHA youth with special needs and thought this clinic was a great way to introduce DCHA families to Special Olympics.

“This was a spectacular event that so many of our families enjoyed,” said Housing Choice Voucher Program Director Ronald McCoy said. “We look forward to working with the Washington Wizards and Special Olympics in the future.”
