The District of Columbia Housing Authority in partnership with many other federal and local service providers hosted the fifth annual Veterans’ Appreciation Event.

“We thank each and every one of you for your service,” said Housing Choice Voucher Program Director Ronald McCoy at the event held at The Community Building at Capitol Riverfront, 1000 5th Street, S.E.

Hundreds of veterans from D.C., Maryland, and Virginia gathered information, visited pre-inspected units, and learned about a myriad of other city, community, and social services. Veterans searching for employment, housing opportunities, or maybe just a haircut had all of those services and many more under one roof in anticipation for Veterans Day.

“We can house you and your families, but we can do a little bit more,” said HCVP Deputy Director Cheryl Robinson. “Once you get housed, you still have other needs.”

In addition to health checks and other information available to veterans, there were giveaways for 200 veterans to enjoy a free breakfast at IHOP on the observed Veterans Day, November 10 at 8 a.m. and another 50 will get toiletry bags.
