Aspiring artists will have a chance to express themselves and learn some of the basics about painting at upcoming events.
The recent Paint and Pizza event at Montana Terrace was such a success; several more were scheduled for customers at Richardson Dwellings, Fort Dupont Dwellings, Frederick Douglass Center and the Southwest Family Enhancement and Career Center over Spring Break.
More than 20 youthful residents of Montana Terrace participated in the February event led by Creative Carousal, a D.C.-based business that teaches groups about the health benefits of painting, including art therapy and the release of negative energy. The facilitators also teach painting basics, like types of brushes, their uses, and some techniques for the class to try when creating their own individual piece of art.
One of the paintings created at Montana Terrace was selected to be hung at Art-Drenaline, a café off of Good Hope Road in Southeast.
Now young people throughout DCHA’s portfolio will have the opportunity to express themselves through paint this April.
