The District of Columbia Housing Authority Board of Commissioners recently honored one of its own.

Commissioner Shelore Fisher completed her term as the voice of Housing Choice Voucher Program customers and received a proclamation from the board. Fisher joined the board in 2014 as an appointee of former Mayor Vincent Gray.

“Shelore Fisher is the first person appointed to the Housing Choice Voucher Program position on the DCHA Board of Commissioners and has served with honor and distinction,” said Board Chairman Neil Albert as he read the proclamation at the December 13 board meeting. “Shelore Fisher has distinguished history and experience in the service of others.”

Fisher served for five years managing the office of United Communities Against Poverty, while also coordinating volunteers and handling event logistics. She also has worked for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Clubs, and the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.

While on DCHA’s Board of Commissioners, Fisher served on the Committee on Operations, Committee on Education, and the Committee on Resident Services.

“Shelore Fisher demonstrated dedication to the improvement of life for DCHA residents through fair consideration of policies brought before the Board with support for all HCVP programs, including VASH, FSS, and local programs,” said Albert before formally thanking Fisher for her support and commitment to the housing authority and its customers.
